Obituary for Douglas Edward Durocher

Douglas Edward Durocher, 69, husband of Constance Durocher, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home.
Doug was the first born son of Edward H. Durocher and Mary E. (Bedard) Durocher. He attended college in Canton before working as an accountant for Jim Keeble before joining the family business, Durocher Auto Sales, where he worked until retirement. He raised and supported his family, remodeled their home, and volunteered his book-keeping skills for family members and Our Lady of Victory Church. He enjoyed fishing, family gatherings and telling dad jokes.
He endured with dignity a form of MS that slowly affected his ability to walk and then progressed to ALS, but far outlived his prognosis. No one ever heard him complain about this burden. Instead he learned to maneuver his wheelchair with precision, navigating the most challenging restaurant entrances and uncut curbs like it was a sport.
Doug is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Constance M. Durocher. They were married in 1972 on his birthday, June 17, which often fell on Father’s Day. He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Durocher of Portland Oregon, his daughter Nicole (Mary Rickson) Durocher of Plattsburgh, and his three grandsons Griffin, Hazard and Geo.
Also surviving Doug are his siblings, Larry (Erica) Durocher, Linda (Allen) Whitney, Beverly (Brian) Lecuyer, Michael Durocher, Susan (David) Gubbins, Bette Durocher (Dennis Smith), Dennis (Michele) Durocher, Robert (Mary) Durocher and Thomas (Gina) Durocher as well as numerous members of his extended family.
Doug was predeceased by his parents and his sisters Nancy Gohlke and Patricia Durocher.
The family would like to thank Debbie Desaw, Heather Bird, Alicia Wetherhult, and Jody Beshaw for the wonderful care they provided to Doug.
Calling hours will be held on Friday November 10, 2017 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at the Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4:00 pm at Our Lady of Victory Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Upstate New York chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society: https://www.nationalmssociety.org/Chapters/NYR or Hospice of the North Country.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad Street, Plattsburgh, N.Y. 12901. (518) 561-3980. Online condolences may be made and memorial candles lit at www.brownfuneralhomeinc.com.
