Virginia L. Bridges, 78, Independence, MO passed away Nov. 7, 2017. Services will be 11 am, Sat., Nov. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, 100 N Pleasant St, Independence, MO 64050; graveside service will follow at 2:30 pm, at Houstonia Cemetery, Houstonia, MO. Visitation will be 5-7 pm, Friday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence MO 64055. The family requests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Independence.
Virginia was born Oct. 5, 1939, the youngest of eight children in Houstonia, MO. She graduated from Sedalia Smith Cotton High School. She worked on the staff at St. Mark’s Catholic Church for thirty-four years and retired in 2014. She was known to many as “The Game Lady” and enjoyed bingo and playing cards with friends. She also enjoyed staying in touch with friends and family through Facebook and going to movies with her church group. She loved to travel with friends and family. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence where she served as a Deacon and Elder.
Virginia was preceded in death by brothers Raymond, John, William, James and Charles Schondelmeyer and sister Mary Sissom. She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years Sam Bridges; daughter Jennifer Wesselman and husband Matt, Independence, MO; son Bryan Bridges, wife Lori and daughter Karina, O’Fallon, MO; sister Barbara Ratcliff and husband Gwen, Harrisonville, MO.
