The Snow Storm!
One of my earliest memories of Mrs. B. involved one of Montreal's famous snow storms, one of which descended upon us when Joanne and I were at Seigniory Elementary. Joanne knows all the details, like how old we were, but I'll guess it was grade 2 maybe? By lunchtime it was a real blizzard and the school announced it would be closing for the afternoon- the best news a kid can get, of course!
Adding to the excitement, Mrs.B. showed up to walk Joanne and I home to their house on Ambassador Ave- one of my favourite places then and still. Glad she did because we three held hands firmly as we trudged through the blinding, thrilling white-out and we arrived home safely. As usual, a hot bowl of tomato/spaghetti soup and a grilled cheese sandwich on Delicatessen bread appeared shortly thereafter. Joe and I watched the Flintstones, played with Barbies, then got bundled up again, snuggly, with help from Mrs. B. and spent the rest of the afternoon playing in the storm. Just one wonderful day of many childhood days, made better by Irene.
