Obituary for Gladys Britten

Gladys Britten
Age 102, passed away peacefully at Hogarth residence. Cremation has taken place, and no service will be held. Gladys was born into a loving family headed by her parents, Tom and Minnie Douglas. She had two brothers, Ivan and Jack and four sisters, Irene, Frances, Phyliss and Maureen. Predeceased by husband Robert. She is survived by her son Doug, brother-in-law Jack Manson (Wpg) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gladys was a proud woman, able to live independently till age 95. Her talents included knitting, crocheting and exquisite needle point work. However, her greatest talent was acquiring and maintaining friendships. Friends came from all walks of life. Some were developed at the local curling rinks, others from 25 years at Birch Beach and still others from many years of wintering in Mesa, Arizona. But her happiest times were 26 years of residence at Waverley Towers. One of many highlights was her “Coronation” as the Queen of the Towers. A photo of “Queen Gladys”, complete with Ladies-in-Waiting hangs in the lobby of Waverley Towers. There are so many people who have been so kind to my mother and me, but, these families deserve special recognition. John and Kathy Cloutier, David and Linda Douglas who never failed to include my mother in countless festive occasions. And Pat and Fred Ofner, who befriended Gladys late in her life, whose friendship and support was invaluable. Thanks to the many who made life comfortable for Gladys as her health began to decline. This includes employees of C.C.A.C., staff at Dawson Court and finally at Hogarth. Flowers are respectfully declined. Friends may make donations to a charity of their choice if they so choose.
