Life Story for Mary Lou Jones

Mary Lou Jones was born on April 9, 1940, in Savannah, Georgia to her proud parents Ruby and Freeman Jones. She was an only child. In 1943, as a young girl, Mary moved to New York City with her parents where she resided until her passing.

Mary was the devoted proud parent of Anthony Hudson and Vance Jones whom she loved dearly. She worked tirelessly to give her children a great education and upbringing. She protected them and was always happy to be around them. She loved her children unconditionally.

Mary attended St. Cecilia Elementary School and continued her education. She attended Hostos Community College, Bronx, NY, and St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY. Upon graduation, she became a Registered Nurse. Mary was a very caring person. She dedicated her life to helping others, the sick and those in need.

Mary was employed in the Pediatric Units at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Harlem Hospital and Metropolitan Hospital for fifty plus years. She was a member of the New York State Nurses Association. She retired in the year 2002. Her young patients fondly referred to her as “Nurse Jones” and that’s how they greeted her in her neighborhood, as well.

Mary was a thoughtful, kind, gentle, loving person of good character, integrity, and honesty. She treated everyone with dignity and respect. She did not hesitate to share whatever she had with those she knew and loved. You had only to ask and she would gladly contribute. She was a great friend, trustworthy, a great listener and she would always give you sound advice. Perhaps, that was part of her being the loving caring individual we came to know and loved. She was a devoted Catholic who attended Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church regularly until her illness. She was involved in many of the church activities. She loved to travel and has traveled all over the world with friends and family.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Freeman Jones.

Mary leaves to mourn her passing: sons, Anthony Hudson and Vance Jones; grandchildren, Keonna Jones, Javance, Lance, and Myasia; special cousin, Tyrone Lowe; special friend, Richard Foy and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

Her love will live on in our hearts forever and she will never ever be forgotten. We will always cherish her beautiful memories.
