Obituary for Mark Todd Herrmann

Mark Todd Herrmann
Mark Herrmann, age 57 of Oshkosh, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 20, 2017. He was surrounded in person and in spirit by family and friends. He had lovingly fulfilled his journey on this earth after gracefully living with cancer for the past four months. Mark was born in Milwaukee on July 15, 1960, the son of Robert and Pearl Herrmann. Mark married his “best friend forever” Gretchen (Gigi Becker) on May 27, 1989, in Kenosha. Mark’s pride and joy were his two sons: Mitchell (of Madison) and Izaak (of Milwaukee). It gave him great peace in his last days to know that his sons, his living legacy, would continue to carry on his love, and joy of life.

Mark is survived by his wife and sons; his father Robert Herrmann of Milwaukee; and his siblings Dan (Shelley) Herrmann, Franklin WI; Marianne Meade, Chicago IL; and Karen (Rich) DuPont, Nashville, TN. He is also survived by many, many other precious family members and friends. Mark was well loved. He was preceded in death by his mother Pearl (Ricco) Herrmann.

Mark graduated from UW-Oshkosh and enjoyed a successful career in grocery/plastics/packaging sales. He was employed at Bardes Plastics in Milwaukee at the time of his death and was grateful for the opportunity to continue to work throughout his illness. He loved people and building relationships and truly enjoyed the challenge of his profession. His love of hard work was initiated by his participation in sports throughout his life, and he excelled at whatever he put his mind to. He passed his love of hard work and sport on to his sons and enjoyed encouraging them on from the sidelines over the years as fan or coach, and more recently loved to sit down with them to watch a good game. Mark was fit and enjoyed being active until the end.

Mark will be remembered especially for the courage, grace and love that he shared these past four months. He was not afraid of cancer and lived life fully until his last breath, “dancing with the Lord,” as he often said. His appreciation and gratitude for the love and support our family received was on his heart always. “I’m so fortunate to have (had) you on this journey with me. Thank you.” ~Mark Herrmann

A Celebration of Mark’s Life will be held on Saturday, December 2, at 5:30 p.m. at First Congregational Church, Oshkosh. Rev. Nancy Taylor will officiate. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the church from 2:30 until the time of the service.
