Clinton-Rev. Dr. Sandra Jean (Johnson) O’Connell, 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Thomas F. O’Connell; their two sons, Lt. Colonel Lawrence O’Connell, Maine Air National Guard & his wife Kimber, of Lunenburg; and Russell J. O’Connell of Clinton; two grandchildren, Katherine O’Connell and Logan O’Connell; siblings and their spouses, Kenneth Johnson & Phoebe of CA; Robert Johnson & Jan of MO; and Dianne Cutting & Terry of NV; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Sandy was born in Acushnet, MA to the late Ralph & A. Rita (Desjardins) Johnson. She was raised in New Bedford and Clinton, and graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1965. A lifelong student, Sandy obtained her Associate degree in Journalism, her Bachelor degree in Biblical Studies, Master’s degree in Theology and Pastoral Counseling, and Doctorate in Pastoral Ministry. Rev. O’Connell was ordained a minister in 1988 with Kingsway Fellowship International in Des Moines, Iowa. She served her faith in various leadership ministries and pastoral assignments, including the Women’s Aglow Fellowship, the International Christian Embassy in Jerusalem, and the Abundant Life Fellowship in Clinton. Rev. O’Connell was assigned as Superintendent of churches and ministers for the New England Region of Kingsway International and she proudly co-founded and served as president of Messiah Ministries International for more than twenty years until the time of her passing. She was a talented writer who published works and devotional books throughout her ministry. Sandy loved bird watching, the ocean, and time spent at the beach on Cape Cod. She grew flowers and herbs and cherished summer days in her garden. She was a dedicated fan of the New England Patriots and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10AM on Thursday, November 30, 2017 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with burial to follow in Reservoir Pines Cemetery, Clinton. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 from 4 until 7PM. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Rev.
