Obituary for Geary L. Bell

Geary Bell, 79, of Jessup, passed into eternal rest on Friday at Hospice of the Sacred Heart.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and love of his life, the former Barbara Matics. They were married for 58 years.

Born in Scranton, son of the late Elmer and Connie Klassner Bell, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Prior to retirement, Geary was employed as a First Class Lineman for PP&L. A life-long member of Court Street United Methodist Church, he was also a Past Master of Peter Williamson Masonic Lodge #325, and a current member of Aurora Lodge #523 in Jermyn. Geary was a member of the Anthracite Craftsman Club, The Tophatters of NEPA., and the Gravel Pond Lake Association. He was a passionate supporter of our country's military. Having been instrumental in helping organize a reunion of veterans, that served in the 28th Infantry Division 109th Infantry Regiment, he was granted honorary membership of the Old Gray Mare in respect of his actions.

Geary was an avid hunter and fisherman. He had a love for history, reading, music, and writing poetry. He penned the poem "Hurtgen Dear Hurtgen", in honor of the men who fought in the battle of the Hurtgen Forest, Belgium. A sincere, honest and compassionate man, he was always willing to help anyone in need. Geary lived for and loved his family immensely. He will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, GCMC Cancer and Infusion Clinic, and all those who took such special care of him.

Also surviving are his children, Renee DePietro(Gus), Clarks Summit; Robert Bell (Debra), Dickson City; Kimberly Muchal (David), Jessup. His grandchildren Aaron DePietro (Brooke), David Muchal (Marie), Amanda DePietro, Sgt. Christopher Bell (Alyssa), Sabrina Shander (Craig), Alexandra Bell, Olivia Muchal. His great-grandchildren Aidan and Tyler, Rosalie and Nicholas, Finn, and Evalyn. Nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 am in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. with Rev. Doug Postgate Pastor of Court Street United Methodist Church and Embury United Methodist Church as officiant. Entombment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Geary’s family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 5:30 until 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Geary’s name may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Hear 600 Baltimore Drive Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
