The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Rex Gardner can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolences

Condolence From: R Stanley Hall
Condolence: Dorothy and I extend our sincere condolences to Kay and her family.

I have been thinking a lot about Rex since learning of his death. I have considered him to be one of my closest friends for over 30 years, even though recently our health issues have prevented us from visiting with each other.

I first met Rex in September 1986 when we moved from California to Northbrook, IL. I was called to serve as a librarian in the family history center in Wilmette, with Re as my trainer. We soon learned that we had many interest in common.

Dorothy and I began attending cultural and social activities in Illinois with Kay and Rex and some other good friends. As Rex and I began to make plans for our retirements, both couples chose the Oak Hills Stake in Provo, Utah as our preferred retirement locations.
We have shared many wonderful activities with Kay and Rex during our Provo years while health permitted, including attending all performances each year at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City and at the Utah Festival Opera in Logan, with dinners at interesting restaurants before each evening performance; having season tickets each year for the performances of the Utah Opera in Salt Lake, the Utah Valley Symphony Orchestra in Provo, and the plays and other performances at BYU. We were able to introduced Kay and Rex to our Oak Hills Family Home Evening group and we would attend wedding receptions for children of our Chicago friends.

A most memorable experience that we shared with Rex and Kay was our 3-week, 3000 miles by bus tour of Turkey led by Revell and LaRue Phillips.

I will miss Rex and our friendship.
