Ruth E. Bennett, 80, a Wenatchee area resident for over 60 years, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Central Washington Hospital.
She was born on April 17, 1937 at Spearfish, South Dakota to the late Walter J. and Alice A. (Morden) Dorsett. As a young child, she moved with her family to the northwest and they made several brief moves that included Deer Park, Quincy and Chelan. She attended Jr. high and high school in Chelan. They moved to Wenatchee and she went to work at Dusty’s Drive Inn. She met and was later married to Charles D. “Chuck” Bennett on June 6, 1954 in Wenatchee. They made their first home briefly in East Wenatchee before moving to the Baker Flats area in the early 1960’s. They remained in Baker Flats until moving back to East Wenatchee in 1971. Ruth went to work as a Custodian cleaning the Wenatchee Valley College Dormitories and also cleaned personal homes as well. She later cleaned the Wenatchee Eye and Ear Medical Clinic. They continued to make their home in East Wenatchee. On August 4, 2011, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 57 years, Charles D. “Chuck” Bennett.
Ruth was a member of the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church in East Wenatchee. In her younger years, she was an avid softball and racquetball player. She enjoyed bowling was a Mariners baseball fan and a Master Nintendo game player. She loved to travel to and watch her children and especially her grandchildren play sports. She was an amazing crafter and delved into all forms. She was also accomplished at drawing, painting and knitting. She liked shopping on the QVC channel.
She is survived by four children and their spouses; Teresa & Steve Cox, Goldendale, Alice & Bruce Dawson, Waterville, Cynthia “Cindy” Mitchell, East Wenatchee, Charles & Paula Bennett, Wenatchee; her sister, Pricilla Joy Grissom, East Wenatchee; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two twin great great granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, Jack and William “Bill” Dorsett and a sister, Alice Dorsett.
A Commemoration service will be held on Friday, December 8th at 11:00 a.m. at the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church, East Wenatchee, with Pastor Joe Savino officiating. A concluding service and the Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
