Donald J. Lewis Sr. of Bear Creek Township, previously of Moosic, died Friday December 1, 2017 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Impatient Unit following a brief illness. His wife of 61 years is the former Sylvia Tomczyk.
Born in Moosic, he was the son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Fleeger Lewis. Educated in Moosic schools, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a diesel mechanic for M&M Trucking, Gilchrist, and TRL Trucking.
Donald was an RC plane enthusiast. His collection of planes was second to none. He spent countless hours working on them in the company of his children & grandchildren. He made others laugh at every opportunity. His most important accomplishment, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are daughters Linda Mitchell, Moosic, Elaine Shillabeer and husband Harry, Bear Creek Twp. Melissa Karaliunas and husband Marty, Covington Twp.; sons Kenneth and wife Yvonne, Madison Twp., Donald and wife Lisa, Scranton, and William and wife Janet, Taylor; 9 grandchildren 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Tiny.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
A blessing service will be conducted on Wednesday at 10am in the Miller Bean Funeral Home Inc., 436 Cedar Ave. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends and family may pay their respects on Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
