Obituary for Robert D. Hofmann

Robert D. Hofmann of Marshall’s Creek, PA died at home suddenly this week. He had been dealing with a number of maladies.

Bob was born in Brooklyn on January 21, 1943 to Peter and Erma Hofmann. He grew up in Haddonfield and Chatham, NJ and attended elementary school at Christ The King and St. Patrick’s. He graduated from Delbarton School in Morristown and was awarded a BS in Biology from St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia. After earning a law degree from Fordham University, Bob served two years in the Army at Fort Dix, NJ and Petersburg, VA. He became a public defender in NYC for a couple of years and then studied at The Art Student’s League where he became an accomplished artist. Bob received his teaching degree at St. Peter’s College and taught science at various high schools in New Jersey for a number of years. In later life he was employed as a freelance artist doing illustrations and similar work for technical publishers. He cared for his parents for a number of years before moving to the Poconos in 2009. He recently joined the board of Country Club of the Poconos as secretary and was active at St. John’s Church in East Stroudsburg bringing communion to the homebound most Sundays.

Bob is survived by his brother Peter (Penny) of Dobbs Ferry, NY and sister Nancy (Denis) Duggan of Maplewood, NJ and their children, Peter Hofmann, Mary Henriques and Dan Duggan. Bob loved his nephews and grand nephews and was everyone’s favorite uncle.

Bob’s family will receive friends on Friday December 8th at 9:00 AM at St. John’s Church 5171 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302. Mass of the Resurrection will follow at St. John’s Church at 10:00 AM. Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360 is assisting the family with arrangements.
