Obituary for Ceburn Ambrose Tackitt

Ceburn Ambrose Tackitt
C A Tackitt, 77, of Mexia passed away December 3, 2017 at Skilled Care of Mexia. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Corley-Porter Funeral Home Chapel in Mexia with Reverend Bill Wright, Sr. officiating.

C A was born July 30, 1940 in Navarro County, Texas to Ceburn Lee & Jewel Massey Tackitt.

C A Tackitt held several jobs through out his life. He made lots of lifelong friends while driving a bread truck and working for the electric company here in Mexia. His true passion was to work outdoors and farm. When the opportunity presented itself that is what he did. For more than a decade he bailed hay and built fence all over Limestone and Freestone county. Leslie remembers going to work with him several summers and playing while he worked. Then when he was old enough to drive the tractor and not fall off C A put him to work. Leslie says he did not get paid in cash like everyone else, but was rewarded with a go-cart once he had worked enough hours. Looking back Leslie says two of his most favorite pastimes with his father were; C A playing quarterback in the backyard with him and all of his friends, and shooting turtles at the tank when they would pop their heads up out of the water.

One of C A’s favorite pastimes was playing dominoes and especially a game called moon. When he would start playing it was nothing unusual for him to lose track of time and play through the night. He had a big soft spot in his heart for animals as he always made contributions to organizations benefiting cats and dogs. His biggest concern as he entered the nursing home was making sure that his cats Whitefoot and Barb where being looked after.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ceburn Lee & Jewel Massey Tackitt; wife, Carlene Tackitt and nephew, Clark Pace. C A is survived by sons, Leslie Tackitt & wife Karen of Granbury and Charlie Baker & wife D’Anna of Groesbeck; granddaughters, Halie Tackitt of Dallas, Hollie Tackitt of Granbury and Ashlee Sparks & husband Justin of Katy; grandson, Chad Baker of Mexia; great granddaughter, Tynlee Sparks of Katy; sister, Sylvia Pace & husband Marles of Wortham; brother, Leland Tackitt & wife Robin of Arkansas and niece, Kari Brantley & husband Dale of Arkansas.
