Obituary for Mitchel Roy Williamson

Mitchel Roy Williamson
Mitchel Roy Williamson 60 years old. Met Jesus face to face in the early morning of Friday December 15, at his home in Goose Creek, SC.
He was rescued from further suffering with colon cancer which was diagnosed in 2016.
Three months ago the pain intensified to unrelenting, steadily diminishing quality of life.
Mitchel was born December 30,1956 to Roy Lee Williamson and Nell Yvonne Peele Williamson in Monroe, NC.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Louis Williamson and Evelyn Kee Williamson, Lloyd A. Peele, Zelpha Elizabeth Peele. His father Roy Lee Williamson, his step father Tarrence C. Robertson.
While Mitchel’s father, Roy Lee Williamson was stationed at the Hickam Air Force base detachment on Maui, Hawaii a neighbor, who was an Air Traffic Controller invited Mitchel (age 10) to come to work with him and spend the day. Mitchel had such a great experience; mostly scanning the sky through binoculars following air planes as they entered the Kahului Airport air space, flew the pattern and landed. That was the beginning of Mitchel’s life time interest in airplanes.
In Sacramento, California Mitchel’s father, Roy was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base and met a Master Sargent, Bill Peterson, who was a Private Pilot Instructor at Capital Flying School. After Roy received his Pilot’s License he bought a Piper Cherokee 140 Airplane. Then Mitchel’s mother, Yvonne earned her Pilot’s License; Mitchel began the FAA Ground School for general aviation at American River College at age 16. He finished the flight training and received his Private Pilot’s license one week before he received his California driver’s license.
Mitchel graduated from South Mecklenburg High School in the United States Bicentennial year 1976. At age 21 Mitchel enlisted in the US Air Force signing up for six years, which was required to train for Air Traffic Controller. After completing his training at Kessler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS he was assigned to Lakenheath AFB in Great Britain for 3 years. The year he rotated back to the USA Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA, he developed a duodenal Ulcer which crushed his career as an Air Traffic Controller. After his military service and discharge his love of airplanes led him to apply for work at Boeing Air Plane Manufacturing, Lake Charles, LA. He was hired and sent to training classes many of which earned him college credit. He became a Quality Assurance Inspector and worked for 10 years until Boeing left Lake Charles, LA. Northrop Grumman moved into the facility. Mitch worked for them 8 years until they lost their government contract. Mitch then moved to Charlotte, NC; met and married Cathy Rollins. He went to work at Boeing Aircraft Manufacturing in Charleston, SC where their focus is building the Dreamliner 787-9 and 787-10. He was hired as a Quality Acceptance Specialist and for 7 years was their Chief Inspector until September 2017 he went on medical disability status with Boeing.
Our Christmas has taken on new meaning; in that while we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who sent His Son to save His people, we rejoice that Mitchel was a believer. He received Jesus as his Savior and Lord at a young age. He was baptized and joined the Pukalani Baptist Church on Maui, Hawaii.
Mitchel is survived by his wife, Cathy Rollins Williamson, His mother, Yvonne Peele- Williamson-Robertson-Little. Sister, Deborah Sue Williamson-Miller-Henion. Step-brother, Tarrence C. Robertson, Jr. (Kathi). Step-sisters, Judith C. Robertson, Beatty (Sean) and Donna L. Robertson. His Step-Father Donald F. Little, MD., Step-Brother, Donald B. Little (Sylvie). Step-sister, Suzanne Little Robards (James). And many nephew’s, nieces and cousins.
A service celebrating the life of Mitchel will be held on Saturday December 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM visitation. Memorial Service at 3:00 PM at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, 4505 Weddington Road, Monroe, NC 28110. The Rev. Jeff Whitecotton will officiate. Internment will follow at the Lakeland Memorial Park 1901 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112
