DONALD, MY BROTHER AND FRIEND:

The Broken Chain
I little knew that morning; God was going to call your name.In life I loved you dearly, in death I do the same. It broke my heart to loose you, but you did not go alone, For part of me went with you, the day God called you home. You left me beautiful memories; your love is still my guide. And though I cannot see you, you’re always at my side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, But as God calls us, one by one, the chain will link again.

DONALD’S MESSAGE TO US WOULD BE:

When I Am Gone

When I am gone, release me – let me go. I have so many things to see and do. You must not tie yourself to me with tears. Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you love, you can only guess how much happiness you gave me in return. I thank you for the love each has shown, but now it is time I traveled alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted By trust. It is only for a while that we must part, so bless those memories within
Your heart. I will not be far away, for life goes on. So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear all my love around you, soft and clear. Then when you must come this way alone, I will greet you with a smile and “Welcome Home.”

In Memoriam

A golden heart stopped beating on Friday. His wings were ready . . . his body died . . . and now his soul is free. Our hearts are hurting but we must give our loved one back to heaven. Grief, like a fingerprint . . . is individual and painful. We are emotionally fragile now as our hearts scream ”NO” and our souls cry “NEVER” . . . but we answer “YES” . . . because we must . . . yet it hurts so very, very much.

While filling the interval between birth and death, it is so important to glorify our Heavenly Father with our words and more importantly, our actions . . . even as we move through the difficult times embracing the flavors, textures and colors that create a beautiful life. My dear friend, Don, did just that!

I could give a fascinating account of Don’s life but suffice to say he made himself unforgettable to the Roxbury/Boston, Massachusetts community and all who admired and respected him. I’ll never forget our first meeting when I was 17 and he came to visit my parents. Immediately, I knew I was in the presence of a truly visionary man. When I was 22 he guided me through the purchase of my first house. From birth until cell by cell his body shut down, Don was an inspirational mentor to me . . . a kind, energetic, fun and caring gentleman who became a best friend. Still in my twenties I moved to Washington, D.C. and Don continued to prod and poke me with information, opportunities, helpful criticism and encouragement.

His was a life of wholesome living . . . amazing cultural and business contributions to his community (probably most notably as a founder of Unity Bank) . . . adventures on his Harley . . . wealth building . . . mentorships . . . all the while planting, pruning and providing the right climate as well as spiritual and emotional nutrients to produce the most amazing fruit . . . his children. Take comfort, Brian and siblings, in the memory of your truly awesome father who was a pillar of a man. He was so proud of you.

There is so much more I could add but I’ll close as I watch from my window the winter sunset blazing across the sky in acknowledgement of Don’s many contributions to making all of our lives better. This glorious sunset is Don’s way of letting us know his work here is done but he’ll watch over each one of us with more of the same inspiration until we join him. Farewell my dear friend . . . your legacy is unmatched.

Always your friend,

Yvonne York

Condolence: There are no words that can fill the emptiness in your heats. Perhaps it will help to know that others care and will also miss Don Sneed. I first met Donald when I was 20 and looking for a job. He hired me six months before the opening of Unity Bank during the capitalization period. Mr. Sneed, as he was known initially, became a friend - someone I could ask advice of in addition to working for. Over the years, I continued with a banking career and occasionally ran into Donald at banking functions and community events. He always had a quick smile and handshake. Donald was a person others do not forget once they met him because he has always been a very special person.

Please accept my condolences

Condolence: To The Family, You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your dear beloved family member.
Jehovah knew that death would cause much suffering, therefore he provided a ransom in Jesus so that we may have an opportunity to live in the future without the threat of dying. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection and the life," at John 11:25. He will resurrect obedient mankind to a beautiful paradise home. Take comfort in this guarantee.
