I worked with Jack for several years at the French Camp Fire Department. It was probably the best years I spent there while working with him. He made it not seem like being at work as he had a way of getting things done without being overbearing as a leader. He was always easy going and never took himself too seriously, but we all respected him. On his days off he loved to hit the garage sales and buy & sell some of the strangest things. His nickname was "Jack the Junker", and he turned his passion for buying and selling things into opening two antique stores in Stockton and then went on to EBay. He also enjoyed restoring old cars and turning them into something completely different, as was the case of converting a little single seat race car that looked like a miniature Formula V Indy car into a street legal vehicle complete with a CHP-issed VIN number. We enjoyed taking turns driving that little car around town and getting stopped by the police (CHP, Stockton PD, San Joaquin County Sheriff) who couldn't believe that it was actually street legal & then proving to them that it was. To their dismay and sometimes anger, we knew as much about the Calif. Vehicle Code as they did & sometimes more. We never got cited. This just scratches the surface of the fun we had together through the years. He will be greatly missed as my forever friend.
