Obituary for Cornelia H "Corrie" TE WINKEL (Schut)

Cornelia H "Corrie" TE WINKEL (Schut)

Cornelia “Corrie” Hendrika
“Oma”
February 25, 1940 – January 4, 2018

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom and Oma on January 4, 2018. Predeceased by her husband Hans in 2009 and first son Hansje in 1962, Corrie leaves to mourn 4 sons; Harry (Patti), John (Shaylene), Andre (Paula), Nico (Naomi); & her daughter Joka (Dene). She will also be missed by her grandchildren; Tim (Mackenzie), Kris (Lisa), Nick, Stasia (Yosuke), PJ, Saskia, Coleton, Miranda, Jessica, Nicholas, Alexander, Alanna, Dylan and Michelle; as well as great grandchildren; plus family and friends around the globe.

Corrie was born in Brummen, the Netherlands. She married Hans in 1961 and started raising a family. They immigrated in 1981 to the Grande Prairie area of Alberta. A great mother and grandmother, she was “Oma” to all. She was always ready with a pot of coffee for anyone who dropped in. Together with Hans they loved their hobby of raising pet birds starting back in Holland and after immigrating even imported breeding stock ranging from budgies and cockatiels, to rosellas and barrabands. These birds made the move along with the family to the Comox Valley in 1988. It was there where they finally realized their dream of making a living from their hobby of raising birds, at one point having 40 aviaries.

She was an optimistic and caring person. Every card she wrote would have her special brand of happy face on it with the words “Keep Smiling!” Corrie loved hosting family Christmas as well as Easter egg hunts in their forested acreage for family and friends. She loved to give and make people happy.

We will miss her very much.

We’d like to thank Dr. Thompson and the hospital staff of 3D for taking such good care of her.
An urn inurnment will take place at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
