Brian Welchman

I met first met Bill at GCOS in Fort McMurry in 1967. We worked together for many, many years. He was intelligent, driven, well organized and a strong character that occupies more of my memory bank than most others. In 1971 Glen Andrews (who was the mill manager at GCOS) took a group of people to Port Hardy to start up the Island Copper Mine. Bill and I were amongst them and we spent 25 years there before the mine closed. We also worked together in Chile and Papau New Guinea. We sang together and fished together for many years. He was firm but fair and could drink most of us under the table. He had a good life, an exemplary career and I feel fortunate to have had his friendship. My condolences to Sue and family on the loss of a highly respected man.
