Obituary for James D. "Jim" Smith

Born in Freemont, Nebraska, James D. Smith, 80, of Billings MT, passed away January 4, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born in November, 1937, to Elden and Wanda Derock Smith. He married Marlene Smith October 13, 1978. They have 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 9 children, (Eileen Waite, Kim Manns, Tammy (Gene) Dobson, Stacy Smith, Shelly Bomar, Wade (Jackie) Bomar, Scott Smith, Lonnie (Anna) Bomar, Donny Bomar). He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Eileen, and his brothers Larry and Ron.
Jim was an accomplished man in every aspect of his life. After marrying the love of his life, Jim built a house in Shepherd, MT, with his own two hands for him and his family. Jim was the jack of all trades, a passionate, loving husband and father, and a hell of a man. Along with being a master meat cutter and labor foreman at Conoco and Excon refineries, he also had endeavors of his own such as hunting, fishing, building horse walkers (which is how he purchased his second most prized possession, his family being first), wood working, horse racing, and building horse buggies for Marlene.
Jim was not a contemporarily religious man, though he did live by his own code. Jim lived by and taught us that code that made him the man we all love, respect, and looked up to.
