Ray Cecil Long, 84 passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was born August 24, 1933, son of the late Titus and Ada Long, he was also preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Long, Mildred Aycoth, and Ailene Craddock, three brothers, Jesse Long, Gerald Long, and Max Long.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Azalee Starnes Long, two sons Jeffrey Ray Long, wife Donna of Monroe, David Lee Long, wife Bridga of Monroe, five grandchildren, Justin, Andrew, Jay, Noah and Tanner Long, one sister, Virginia Crook of Monroe.
Ray was a manager of Monroe Oil Company for several years; in 1977 he became a farmer, where he worked the rest of his life. He was a member of the State and National Cattleman’s Association and a member of Farm Bureau. He was also a life long member of Ebenezer Truelight Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held 2 :00 PM, Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, burial to follow service in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.
