Obituary for Shirley Ann Wittman (Thaut)

Shirley Ann (Thaut) Wittman passed away on January 7, 2018 at St. Vincent Healthcare. She was born November 4, 1936, the ninth child born to Adam and Anna (Krug) Thaut. She was raised and lived most of her life in Shepherd. Shirley graduated from Shepherd High School.
Shirley married Drago “Jiggs” Damjanovich (deceased) and from this marriage they had three children, Nick (deceased), Shelly and Steve. Shirley worked for Alemite Company and Briggs Distributing for many years. She later married Clarence Wittman (deceased) and they operated a motel in the Billings area for a few years. They then journeyed to Seattle, Washington to operate a motel at SeaTac. Shirley suffered a brain aneurysm upon returning to Billings and was unable to continue working full-time. She did work part-time at the Shepherd School, working with young children, something she loved to do. She was “grandma” to them all. She enjoyed playing the accordion and organ, and loved to go dancing whenever possible. Shirley was a member of the Shepherd Seniors.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers - John, Carl, Herman and Ed and two sisters, Clara Hofmann and Ruth Wakefield.
She is survived by her two children, Shelly (Dick) and Steve (Patsy), and two grandchildren, Devin and Kendal. She is also survived by one sister - Loraine Welsh and one brother, George. Shirley is survived by many nieces and nephews, most of whom referred to her as “Squirrely Shirley.”
