Obituary for Debra Ann Starling

Debra Ann Starling, 61, passed away at home unexpectedly, Monday, January 8, 2018.
Born in Rushville, Indiana, Debra was the daughter of the late Betty McDaniel and Wilbur L. Lee. She had made her home in Smithfield since 2005.

A beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother, Debra leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 43 years, Jerry Wayne Starling; her daughter, Anna Michelle Wells (Jason); her son, Joshua Michael Starling (Amanda); grandchildren, Aidan, Lucas, and Jackson; other family members to include, brother, Charles Robert Lee; sister-in-law, Jo Ann Honeycutt (Billy); and a host of extended family and friends.

After Debra graduated from Knightstown High School, in Indiana, she married, her husband, Jerry. As a US Army wife and government employee she travelled around the United States to include a tour in South Korea. Returning to this country, they were stationed at Ft. Rucker (AL), and Ft. Campbell (KY). During these formative years of her family, they relocated back to Indiana where Debra home-schooled the children. Most recently before retiring in Smithfield, VA. Debra worked for the Peninsula Agency on Aging (PAA).

In the next chapter of her life, Debra and her daughter were the founders and proprietors of The Feathered Nest, a boutique-type soap and body lotion crafter. She enjoyed setting up her booth at local shows and enjoyed introducing her care products to customers. She thoroughly enjoyed conversation and would 鈥渓ight-up鈥 for the opportunity to share with the clients that stopped by her booth.

A service celebrating Debra鈥檚 life will be held 12 Noon, Saturday, January 13, 2018, in Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton, with Donald and Vesta Wentworth as eulogists. Family and friends will gather from 10 am and until service time for visitation. Burial will follow in St. Luke鈥檚 Memorial Park. The life celebration will continue, following interment, hosted by the American Legion, Post 49, 818 S. Church St., Smithfield, VA 23430.
