Right out of college in 1973 I got hired by the IRS as a tax auditor in Syracuse. For rookies like me, that meant that I would man the front desk at the IRS office in the Federal building, answering hundreds (felt like millions) of tax questions during the filing season. It was my great good luck to be working that desk alongside Carol. Complicated, crazy, incomprehensible, repitious, and sometimes fascinating income tax questions came our way. Carol was like an MC at a big show - coaxing the facts and issues the people presented, trying to figure out what section of the tax code (if any) might apply to lessen their tax burden. Even when people came in anxious and angry, she had a way of calming them and making tax rules understandable. And most of the time she even got a laugh out of them! We actually had a blast answering all of those questions and thanks to Carol, we got a lot of smiling, laughing people leaving the Federal building.
I will miss you Carol. You were a role model and a true friend.
Love,
Kathy Jacques
