Obituary for Richard Donald Ray

Richard Donald Ray was born January 30, 1950 in Jackson, GA to Mrs. Willie Mae Ray (Jackson) and the late Mr. William Ray Jr. He was the first born of five children; his sister Mary Ann Jones (Ray) preceded him in death. “Ricky”, as he was lovingly called by family and friends, departed this life on January 15, 2018.

Richard graduated from Luther Judson Price High School in 1968. Upon graduation, he joined the Air Force, serving for four years and traveled to several foreign countries. He held several different jobs upon his return, before finally going into construction.

One of his most cherished jobs was working at Turner Field with the Atlanta Braves. His sons all have memories of sitting in the stands and having their father introduce them baseball legends such as Hank Aaron, and Dale Murphy. Richard’s co-workers affectionately nicknamed him “Boom-Boom”.

Richard lived his life on his own terms. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Mrs. Willie Mae Ray’ brother, Mr. William Ray III; two sisters, Ms. Laura Ray, and Ms. Janet Johnson; four sons, Timothy Jerome Ray, Calvin Lamont Ray, Quentin Blake Ray, and Brandon Richard Ray; five grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
