Obituary for Alisha Lynn Clayton
Alisha Lynn Clayton, age 33 years young, very unexpectedly, became an angel on January 18, 2018. Although an exact cause of her death has yet to be determined, she died of natural causes. No drugs were found in her system.
Alisha was born on April 20, 1984, in Atlantic City, NJ to Teresa and Lyle Williams. Alisha was the first-born child, grandchild, and niece in our family. This alone made her special. She was one beautiful baby. People often said she reminded them of the Gerber baby.
She grew up at the Jersey shore. This is where her love of the beach and ocean began. She spent many great days on the beach growing up. As a young girl, she enjoyed cheerleading, and participating in pageants, winning many. She was a former Little Miss Ventnor, Little Miss Atlantic County, just to name a few. Alisha started her waitering career in the casinos of Atlantic City. She loved working there. She worked in many different places in her life. Buffalo Wild Wings, Bizzaro’s, Tennis Country Club, to name a few. Her bubbly personality, infectious laugh, and beautiful spirit, all helped her to excel in this profession.
It was in Atlantic City that Alisha met Darren, the man that would give her the greatest gift of her life, her son, Cameron. And even though they were not together in the end, Darren remained a big part of her heart.
Alisha’s son, Cameron was her life. From the moment he was born, he had her wrapped around his finger. The joy that he brought to her life was immeasurable. When she was with Cam, all was right with the world. Nothing brought her more joy then to spend time with him. Simple things. Trips to Chucky Cheese, she was a big kid at heart. Movie nights were a weekly tradition for her, Cam, and her Mom. These were the best of times. Family…
Alisha spent the last day of her life, doing what she loved best, being a Mom. It was Cam’s 11th birthday. Alisha surprised him at school with birthday cupcakes. He was so excited to see her. Alisha and her Mother picked Cam up at school and they all went out to a celebration dinner. After dinner, ice cream was definitely in order. Then it was off to visit Grams and Pop-Pop. It was, up till then, quite simply, the perfect day. Cameron was Alisha’s pride and joy. Her proudest accomplishment. Her WORLD.
Alisha was very, very close to her grandparents, Carole and Joe, or as she called them, Grams and Pop-Pop. She lived with them at different times in her life. When she moved from NJ to Florida, she moved in with them. This was a really good time in her life. She really blossomed there. Going to the beach and pool with Grams, walking Cocoa with Pop-Pop, simple things made her happy.
Alisha and her Mom were best friends. The times she spent just hanging out with Mom were the best. Frequent trips to Starbucks were the norm. Her favorite, Grande Caramel Frappe, layered with whipped cream, with extra caramel on the top and bottom. To her, that was Heaven in a cup. Then maybe off to tan, and a quick stop to a Redbox, and then it was back to Mom’s to hang out. Alisha loved the time she had with her Mom. Talking, laughing, loving…They could spend hours together watching Lifetime movies and just being together. Her Mother is devastated.
Holidays in our family are really special. And for Alisha, Halloween and Christmas were her favorites. Every year on Halloween, she would look forward to dressing up with Cam and going trick or treating. She loved going up to the door with Cam and gettin’ her some candy! Alisha was always a big kid at heart. Family Christmas’s were the most important to her, and many of our most cherished memories are from our Christmas Eve dinners.
Alisha was an incredible friend to so many. We wish we could mention you all by name. But to her many friends, know that you meant the world to her. All of your support, love, and friendship at our darkest hour, are a testament to the person that Ali was. But there was one friend who held a very special place in her heart, her TayTay. Alisha loved her beyond words. Two friends could not be closer. They shared everything together. Alisha looked at her as a second sister. Our family is forever grateful that she had someone like that in her life. Taylor will always be family to us.
Alisha and her sister Amber were so much more then sisters. They were truly best friends. Becoming a big sister was so exciting for Ali and she loved helping care for her baby sister. As they grew older, a new relationship formed. The two were like one. They became a source of strength to each other, through the best and worst times of their lives. An ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on. The bond that they shared was unbreakable. Even now. Forever and ever and ever.
Alisha had many cousins that she was very close to. But her relationship with her cousin Chanel was unique. She had recently moved in with her, and this helped to solidify an already special relationship. Fun nights just hanging out watching Netflix, rooting for Chanel’s beloved Yankee’s. Spending time with family was a simple pleasure that Alisha never took for granted.
All of her aunt’s and uncle’s thought the world of her, but her Aunt Kima was her favorite. Kim helped Teresa care for Alisha when she was little, and it was during this time that Kima took on that very special role. It was a role that she cherished. Being there for Ali was a joy for Kim.
Anyone who knew Alisha, knew of her love for animals. From her crazy lizard named Izzy, to her most recent pet, Sparkles. Alisha loved that dog. She was not a dog to Alisha, she was her second child. I remember when Hurricane Irma hit, she refused to flee to NJ with her Mom, instead, choosing to send Cam to safety in NJ with Mom and stayed behind to ride out the storm with Sparkles. That is devotion.
It should come as no surprise that Alisha loved her phone. She made taking selfies an artform. Snapchat, Insta, and Facebook were favorites. We will cherish them all.
To know Alisha, was to know the phrase, “That’s my favorite!” But her true favorite was her Pop-Pop’s meatballs. Anyone who knows the family knows that they are legendary. Alisha loved them.
Alisha was one of the most loving, giving, caring, and gentle people. Her ability to make you smile even in the darkest of moments, was her gift. She possessed a zest for life that was apparent to all who knew her. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.
