Obituary for Louis E. Shipp (Omar El-Amin)

Louis E. Shipp    (Omar El-Amin)
Mr. Louis E. Shipp (Omar El-Amin) made his transition on Saturday, January 20, 2017 at the Veterans Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee surrounded by family.
Louis was born in Jackson, TN to the late William Q. and Florence Shipp. His family relocated to Flint, MI in 1958 where he attended the Flint Public schools. He was a proud “1970 Northwestern Wildcat”. Louis furthered his education at Western Michigan University and DeVry University in Atlanta where he received an Associate Degree in Computer Science. Louis served in the United Sates Navy as a Communication Specialist and received Honorable Discharge.
Louis accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. He was a seeker of the truth and meaning of life. He later studied Islam. In recent years, Louis professed his faith to his Christian foundation and practiced non-denomination belief.
Louis will be remembered as a compassionate and loving man with a strong sense of family unity. He was an avid reader with a passion to advocate and empower cultural self-awareness. He enjoyed sports, music and watching old movies.
Louis leaves to cherish his memory sisters,-Flora J. Shipp, Deborah Shipp-Brackins, brother Daniel E. Shipp, nephew Charles Shipp, Jr., nieces Jacqueline Shipp, Latiya Brackins, Mary Shipp, Hansani Shipp, and Christina Pea.(12) great nephews/nieces and (1) Great-Great nephew. A host of cousins including Doris Turner, Linda (Jerry) Godwin, Cecil Shipp and Georgia Moore, the Thompson and Woods families. Surviving are many other relatives and friends including childhood class mates; Isiah Byrd, Sam Moore, Wayne Sisco, Earl West, special friend and companion Elizabeth Hollomon.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents William Q. and Florence Shipp, a brother Charles Shipp (Radee) and sister Mary Shipp (Reynolds).
The Shipp family wishes to express its sincere appreciation for the love and support that so many have shown during this difficult time.
A Very special thanks to the Mt. Olive M.B. Church, Pastor Tommie Woods, Sr., New St. Luke Pastor Dennis E. Blalock, the Mott Ave neighborhood families in Flint, MI, Dr. Zare and the Palliative Care 4F Unit at the VA Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
