Fond Memories Through The Years

When I became an employee of the Boston Public Library's data processing department back in 1969. Fie's acquaintance and hospitality were unprecedented. As weeks progressed to months to years, Fie became more of a family member, sort of a "surrogate mother". We eventually decided that we should get together with our spouses. My wife and I met with Giulio and Fie, to dine at The Fantasia Restaurant in Cambridge, MA which led to other memorable dining engagements. We soon met again at the Hardcover restaurant in Danvers, MA proceeding again to an after dinner rendezvous at our home. Tragedy - Fie's terrible accident happened while leaving work when she was seriously injured after being struck by an auto as she crossed the street at the BPL Annex Building in Charlestown, MA. Her fortitude and determination were key to her recovery, eventually returning to her position at the Boston Public Library. A new exciting ERA at the BPL: In 1974 our Data Processing Department moved into the new BPL Johnson building at Copley Square. As the years progressed with Fie, leading the Data Key Entry department with diligence and perseverance, her retirement was approaching. We kept in contact thru her retirement years and eventually mine, where she would always call me on related retirement issues. I would also check periodically on her overall status - she couldn't emphasize enough how her daughters, Pat and Maria, were so instrumental and caring for her well being. Sadly, Fie passed on January 27, 2018, a day saddened with thoughts of cherished past memories - ironically her passing was on my birthday. My Sincerest Sympathy Frank Altieri
