Obituary for Rodney Reuben Grunske

Rodney R. “Rod” Grunske, age 78, of Oshkosh, died Sunday evening January 28, 2018, at the Waterford in Oshkosh. Born on June 26, 1939, in Oshkosh, the son of Reuben and Grace (Phillipps) Grunske, Rod married Judith Tokarski on July 30, 1960. He later married Darlene Schilhabel on February 16, 1980, in Oshkosh.
As a young boy, Rod worked in the family business, Grunske Dairy. He later became a painter with Oshkosh Motor Truck, a delivery person for Jobber Oil Company, and an ice cream delivery person for Smith Ice Cream Company. Always looking to better himself, Rod went to the Sun Prairie Truck Driving School and his first semi-driving job was with Rippin Good Cookies in Ripon, Wisconsin. He later went on to drive mail truck for U.S. Postal Service, Hartwig Mail (serving Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota), and lastly drove for Valley Express Trucking Company before his retirement. Rod was a well-known member of the Omro Antique Tractor Club and a past member of the Omro Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Grunske of Oshkosh; a daughter, Pam (Paul) Dicke of Hartford, Wisconsin; two sons, Robert Grunske and David Grunske, both of Oshkosh; five step-children, CindyLou (Douglas) Seefeld of Prescott, Arizona, Cheryl (Dave Geneske) Dahlberg of Oshkosh, Julie (Charles) Mier of Omro, Corey Garrison of Omro, and Christopher (Ingrid) Garrison, of Oshkosh; a sister-in-law, Alice Grunske of Oshkosh; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 12:00 Noon in Seefeld Funeral Chapels, 1025 Oregon Street, with interment to follow at Brooks Cemetery. A time of visiting and sharing of memories will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon at the funeral chapel. Online condolences to the family may be given at www.seefeldfuneral.com
