The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Dr. James W. Vardaman can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Lesson Learned

Dr.Vardaman taught me 60 years ago at Howard Payne University.  This was the year that the space age began, but the dorm only had one television and this was before the days of the transistor radio. I was a good student and was crushed when I failed a one-question quiz.  The question was "What is Sputnik?"  Only one student knew the answer.  We then got the full lecture that history was our course, but history was being made each day.  Our assignment for the next class was to report the six-o'clock news. I still remember the lecture and my children heard it repeated as I sent them off to college with an individual TV set, a transistor radio and a subscripson to "US News and World Report!"
