Ryan lives in my memory as a smooth-faced teenager with a sunny disposition who frequently had Chase with him whenever we saw him out front and on the road. He was my favorite of Shawn's friends since he was the most open among them to my dorky interests, like learning how to play Magic: The Gathering (a fantasy card game). He was fun to tease and easy to amuse. I don't remember what it was, but a friend of mine who was over a lot used to deliberately call him by another name (something common and unremarkable like "Bob" I think) and it was always funny to see Ryan laugh and try to correct him. It was always great and often amusing to observe his relationship with Alex and the many parallels between that and the relationship between Shawn and Ethan, sibling rivalry and all. The last time I saw Ryan must have been at a graduation or birthday at my parents' place and I just remember being shocked that he had developed this deep man voice but was still a short boyish fella. I said as much to him and we had a laugh. I remember a positive young man with bright smiles, happy eyes, and laughs that came easily. He was basically family for a while there and I'm very sorry and saddened for his loss.
