Douglas G  Robert
Douglas Gerard Robert, 68, of Frenchtown, Montana, passed away on Thursday, February
1, 2018 at his home of heart failure.
He was born December 23, 1949 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Gerard and Doris Robert.
He was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts and attended Technical High School, upon
graduation, he attended the University of Massachusetts. There he received degrees in
Elementary education and Nuclear Science.
He married Karen Karvonen while attending the university. After he graduated they moved
to Missoula, Montana. Arriving in Montana, he worked as a teacher in the Lolo School District
for 1 year. After leaving teaching, he worked for the Forest service in the main warehouse. He
later drove semi tractor/trailer for United Parcel Service, where he worked for 39 years. He was
in their circle of honor for having no accidents during that tenure. He retired from there in
December 31, 2014.
He met Nancy in 1976 and they were married September 30,1978. They had three children.
He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He always made time for friends and
family, as they were very important to him. He enjoyed helping others, which prompted him to
be an organ donor. He and Nancy greatly enjoyed regular summer trips to Virginia City to see
the summer theater plays. They spent hours out fishing and traveling together.
Doug was very active and had many hobbies. He was a member of mended hearts. He
enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, working on cars or just being in the yard. His
“ladies” (the chickens) were his pride and joy. He continued to be actively involved with fire
fighting by working for the Forest Service during the summer fire season driving supplies to fire
camps. He was an assistant chief for the Frenchtown Fire District and was also a volunteer
firefighter with them for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Missoula, Montana. She was the love of his life and
best friend. A daughter, Kelly King and her husband Joe of Oroville, Washington, their kids Jd
and Tori. A son Tracy Robert of Missoula, Montana and his wife, Tonya, their three kids,
Ashleigh, Brittnee, and Douglas. A daughter, Jody Robert, of Missoula, Montana and her kids
Danial and Keara, A sister Melanie Strong of West Springfield, Massachusetts and a sister Lisa
Lavigne of Springfield, Massachusetts along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended
family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerard and Doris Robert.
The family invites you to share in love and laughter at a potluck celebration of life to be held at
Station 1, Frenchtown Fire Hall (16875 Marion Street, Frenchtown, Montana) on February 17,
2018 from 2:00 - 4:30 PM.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the arthritis
research foundation, the heart research foundation, Missoula Chicks N Chaps or a charity of
your choice.
