Arthur “Art” J. Disch, age 86, of Janesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018.
Art was born on December 22, 1931 to the late Henry and Alice Disch. He was a lifelong resident of Janesville. Art served in the Army from 1952-1954, proudly following in the steps of his six older brothers who also served in the United States Armed Forces. After 46 years, in 1997, he retired from General Motors in Janesville, working hard every day and enjoying the many friends he made along the way.
Art always wore a smile and made everyone around him smile just the same. He put family first – quick to help one of his kids, grandkids, family members, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed vacations with his family, sharing his love of coin collecting with his grandkids, watching the boys’ baseball games, gatherings at the Moose Club, playing cards and pool with friends at the Janesville Senior Center…and dancing.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Vivian (Russell); five children: Kevin (Christine) Disch of Janesville; Kim (Brian) Hesgard of Edgerton; Karen (Lonny Pastorius) Disch of Milton; Kirk (Lisa Withey) Disch of Janesville; and Kreg (Claire) Disch of Janesville; eleven grandchildren: Scott and Tayler Disch; Sam and Dana Hesgard; Devin, Dustin, and Charlize Ludwig; Brandon, Sophia, Benjamin, and Shannon Disch; one great-grandson, Graysin Disch; one sister, Mary Rahorn of Belvidere, Illinois. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Earl and Hazel Russell, and eight siblings: Matthew, David, Marion, Margaret, Ross, Philip, Vincent and Richard.
Funeral services with a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 am on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at ST MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 313 E. Wall St. (downtown Janesville) with Fr. Rob Butz officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, February 6 at WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME or from 10-11 am on Wednesday at the CHURCH. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The family would like to give thanks to the doctors who cared for Art. The staff at Mercyhealth were beyond amazing and we will never forget their kindness and tender care.
