Hilda M. Shew, 87, of Ft. Loudon, died February 1, 2018, at her home.
Born January 18, 1931, at Ft. Loudon, PA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Evelyn Little Gordon.
Hilda had been a cook at Oak Forest Restaurant, and a number of other area restaurants. She was also a former employee of D and J Cleaning Services, Knouse Food and U-Wanna-Wash Frocks. Hilda loved her grand babies. Her hobbies and interests included: bingo, ceramics, embroidery, cross word puzzles, and baking, and crochet.
Her husband, Melvin L. Shew, Sr., died January 18, 1980.
Surviving family include three daughters, Saundra S. (Gaither) Robinson, Smithsburg, MD; Cathy M. Rice, Chambersburg, Connie K. (Randy) McNair, Fayetteville, four sons, Melvin L. Jr., “Butch” (Liz) Shew, Chambersburg, Randy W. (Patty) Shew, St. Thomas, Donald L. (Sharon) Shew of Ft. Loudon, and a daughter in law, Debra Rosenberry Shew of Fayetteville, 16 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.
The family wants to acknowledge Don’s wife, Sharon, who provided wonderful care for Hilda.
Hilda was preceded in death by a son, David E. Shew, a great granddaughter, Colleen Shew, sisters, Marie High, and Patricia Myers, and brothers, Ronald “Jake”, Melvin “Smoke”, Charles “Cheese”, and Theodore “Whitey”, Gordon.
Funeral services will be held February 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg with Pastor Reuben Egolf officiating. Burial will be at Stenger Hill Cemetery, Ft. Loudon.
Viewing 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg.
