Jean F. Jarvis (nee Bisset), Thunder Bay, Ontario, peacefully passed on January 30, 2018, at St. Joseph’s Care Group’s Hogarth Riverview Manor at the age of 92 years. Born on July 17, 1925, in Kingussie, Scotland, Jean lived a long and endearing life. She married Edward William Jarvis in Scotland and immigrated to Canada as a war bride in 1946 aboard the Queen Mary landing in Halifax, Nova Scotia enroute to Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay). Jean and Edward built their home on Algonquin Avenue where they raised their sons Fraser and Malcolm.

She was predeceased by her parents, her son Malcolm (1978), husband Edward (1979) and brothers Sandy, Peter and Robert in Scotland. She is survived by her eldest son Fraser in Edmonton, Alberta, and nephew Donald in Scotland along with many very good friends.

Jean was very proud of her Scottish heritage and took great pride in sharing stories of her early years in the Highlands with friends and visitors. Her fondness for the land she loved was ever evident.

Jean enlisted in the Royal Air Force and worked as a dispatcher to support the war effort in Britain. She also worked for St. Joseph’s Hospital as a ward secretary and later for the City’s Telephone Department, building many friendships along the way. She loved to cross country ski and play golf with her friends. Gardening was her passion and her yards both at home and at their camp at Cummins Lake were testimony of her love for the beauty of flowers.

A funeral service for Jean will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 23, 2018 in the Chapel of Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court St., Thunder Bay, ON.
