Obituary for Richard E. "Dick" Garbrick

Richard E. "Dick"  Garbrick
Richard E. “Dick” Garbrick, 89 of York, died at his residence on February 4, 2018. He was the husband of the late Madeline M. (Ryan) Garbrick.

Born May 1, 1928 in York County, PA, he was the son of the late Sadie E. (Shellenberger) and Paul A. Garbrick, Sr.

Dick was a U. S. Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean War.

He was formerly employed as an Inspection Foreman for the former Bendix Corp. and retired as a Communications Technician from the former G.T.E.

Dick was a 1946 graduate of North York Senior High School, where he was a four year letterman in baseball, basketball, track and soccer and formerly attended Penn State University. He was an accomplished bowler, an avid sports fan and was a longtime member of 4th United Methodist Church.

Dick is survived by two sons, Alan Pryor of York, PA and Jack Pryor of New Mexico, three granddaughters, Jessica Nugent, Sarah Pryor and Shawn Beschler, a grandson, Michael Pryor, seven great grandchildren, a brother, Paul Garbrick, Jr. of York, PA and a sister, Mary Jane Sanders with whom he resided in York, PA. In addition to his wife and parents, Dick was preceded in death by a son, Roger Pryor and a nephew, Steven Weigle.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Fourth United Methodist Church, 1067 E. Market St. York, PA with his pastor, the Rev. Miguel A. Arenas, officiating. A viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Cremation will follow the service with graveside military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard and a private burial in Mount Zion Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fourth United Methodist Church, 20 N. Lehman St. York, PA 17403 or to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.
