Mrs. Loraine Brant Sterner Howell, age 89 passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at Avante of Concord.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 pm Saturday, February 10 at Wilkinson Funeral Home with a service to follow in the chapel at 1:30 pm with Dr. James Howell officiating and music by Jann Howell. Entombment will be held at Carolina Memorial Park.

Loraine was born January 12, 1929 in Wythe County, VA, a daughter of the late William D. and Ruby Vest Brant. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Donald W. Sterner, brother, William (Jack) and wife, McCoy Brant, brother, Eugene (Gene) Brant, sister in law, Annie F. Brant, and a niece, Kimberly Brant.

Loraine was educated in Virginia and worked at Sears, Roebuck, & Co. She was later transferred to Charlotte with Sears where she worked at their Credit Central organization until her retirement. Loraine was very involved in social clubs and volunteering and was active in the Concord Senior Center until her transition to full-time care. In 2006 she received the annual Volunteer of the Year award, something she was most proud of.

She is survived by her beloved husband, C.A. “Jack” Howell; brothers, Larry W. Brant of Wytheville, VA and John D. Brant and wife, Debbie of Bluefield, WV; sister-in-law, Dot Brant of Concord; nephews, David, Jerry and John David Brant, nephew, Carl Jerry Sterner; nieces, Sabrina Koja, Leasa Brant, Kathy Tuck, Carol Brant, Karen Guers, and Janet Heim, and godchild, Caroline Hudson. All of her nieces and nephews dearly loved their Aunt Loraine.
