James Theadore Blankenship, Jr. (Ted), 66, of Norfolk, VA (formerly Richmond, VA) passed away February 8th and went to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his mother Norma Stultz Pappas and step father Theodore Marion Pappas (Johnny), his grandmother Gertrude Price Good. Ted is survived by his wife of 29 years Phyllis T. Blankenship, his brother Gerald Kevin Blankenship, three sisters Donna Blankenship Bonner, Kathy Blankenship Thomas, Theresa Pappas Ferrell and her husband J. O. Ferrell, nine nieces, nephews and their respective spouses: Sunny Gail Thomas, Austin McKinley Thomas and his wife Morgan Matthews Thomas, Patrick Rene Izac and his wife, Cynthia Cordier Johns Izac, Jerilyn & Zachary Izac-Gude, Jonathan Pappas Ferrell and Christa Marie Ferrell.
Ted attended Old Dominion University and was in the optical business for more than 45 years as a licensed optician. He was a computer enthusiast, known for his tremendous intelligence and loved being the “strong/foundation” figure for his family. He continues to be loved by all who knew him. We love you Ted and miss you but know you will always be with us.
A private family gathering will be held in Richmond, VA at a later date.
