Laurene Eva (Poelma) McCall, passed away on February 10, 2018 in Derby, KS. She was born in Olympia, WA in 1922 to Laurence and Mabel (Dayton) Poelma. Her family moved from Cheyenne, WY to Beloit, KS where she graduated from St. John High School. She attended nursing school in Wichita and Kansas City and graduated from Halstead School of Nursing in 1944. She worked at the Community Hospital in Beloit until her marriage to Robert D. McCall in 1949.

Laurene and Bob moved to Wichita to work and raise their family. She was employed at several hospitals, clinics and schools as a registered nurse. She retired from Cessna Aircraft Company as an industrial nurse and continued to work part time.

Laurene was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wichita from the time it was founded in 1955 to the time of her passing. She served in several different church and school organizations. She also was Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader for her children’s troops.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Laura Jeanne McCall; brothers, George and Thomas Poelma; and sisters, Theodora Sherman and Jeanne Morrell.

Laurene is survived by her son, Thomas Scott (Mary) McCall; daughter, Karen McCall; granddaughters, Jessica Norden and Chelsea McCall (David) Coblentz; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Rosary: 7:30 pm, Sunday, February 25, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 am, Monday, Febraury 26, 2018; both at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 2801 S Seneca St, Wichita, KS 67217.
