Obituary for Marian Kaye Sharp
Surrounded by her loving children, granddaughter, and devoted husband, George, Marian Kaye Sharp passed away at home in Roscoe, Montana, on Feb. 8, 2018, after a brave and courageous, four and a half-year battle with breast cancer.
Born in Phoenix on May 26, 1946, Marian was raised in the burgeoning Valley of the Sun with a love of swimming and roller skating, as well as a distaste for wearing shoes.
After moving to Mesa when she was 15, Marian attended Westwood High and spent time on weekends visiting family and friends in Casa Grande where she met George J. Sharp. They married on Sept. 23, 1963, then raised four children while living in Casa Grande, Phoenix, and Show Low, Arizona. Once her children were raised and her husband retired, Marian and George started their next adventure, buying a ranch in Roscoe, Montana, and raising cattle, sheep, and a handful of horses.
In addition to being a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Marian was an exceptional cook. She enjoyed making meals for her family and honing her skills by watching Food Network. She was an expert at crocheting and made dozens of exquisite afghans for herself, family, and friends. Summer was Marian’s season to shine with a green thumb that covered her porches and deck with bountiful blooms. Attracting and admiring birds from her river room was another peaceful pastime.
Those who knew and loved Marian appreciated her sense of humor, great instincts, graciousness, and colorfully expressive language.
Marian is survived by her husband of 55 years, George, her children Eric (Dana Lumpkin), Kristen, Chad (Caprice), and Heather (Ken) Douglass, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren, as well as her sister, Patrice Herb, and brother, Gregory Proops. She is preceded in death by her son, Shawn Joseph, father, James R. Griffith, mother, Doris Savage Proops, and brother, James B. Griffith.
Services will be held Monday, Feb, 12, at Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge, Montana, with an additional service to follow in Arizona at the end of May.
