Obituary for Edward Maurice "Ed" Mahoney

Edward M. Mahoney, age 88 of Mound, previously of Littleton, CO, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 8, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Maurice and Anna; brothers, Harold and Joseph; sisters, Eileen, and Margaret Hoffman. Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Catherine “Katie”; children, Kathy (Greg) Johnston, Janie (Jim) Jerdee, Debbie (Craig) Hertzenberg, Patty (Gregg) Pitts, Terry (Cheryl) Mahoney, Sharon (Bob) Ruud, Tim (Kelly) Mahoney; grandchildren, Bryan (Christy) Johnston, Nicholas Johnston, Katie (Jim) Magnuson, Elizabeth Hertzenberg, Stephanie Hertzenberg (fiancé Tyler Ellgard), Kristin (Cole) Johnson, Kyle (Katy) Pitts, Dayna (Chris) Harrell, Natalie Pitts, Ryan Mahoney (Lindsay Van Dyke), Hanna (Danny) Gyllen, Michele Mahoney, Kelly (Nick) Matson, Eddie and Jack Mahoney; great-grandchildren, Parker Johnston, Sylvan Johnson, Kendall and Jenna Matson; siblings, Theresa (Bob) Chapman, Arnie (Shirley) Mahoney, Bill (Colleen) Mahoney, Jeannie Smith, Patty (Bob) McCoy, Don Mahoney; numerous family and friends. Ed married his high school sweetheart, Katie Buechter in 1952 after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame with a Ph.B. in Commerce. He served in the Navy during the Korean War before settling in Littleton, CO where he began a career in Finance. In 1971 he relocated his wife and 7 children to the Lake Minnetonka area of MN to further his career with a company then known as Imperial Financial Services. 39 years later he retired as President of Fortis. Ed loved to hunt, fish and play golf and served as President of the Lafayette Club. Ed and Katie enjoyed winters playing golf in Naples, Florida. A Wake will be held on Friday, February 16 from 4-7 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Mound Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound. Interment with cemetery honors immediately following service at OLL Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to; OLL Catholic Church and School, The National Kidney Foundation or Charity of your choice.
