STERLING ROBBINS TRESEDER

Sterling was born February 7, 1932 in the Crane Maternity Home in Provo, Utah. He was the fifth of six children born to Ralph and Melba Robbins Treseder. Sterling was raised in Ogden, Utah and enjoyed participating in school sports.

Sterling joined the United States Marine Corps, serving one of three years in Korea. He was then called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California. Sterling had a variety of church callings throughout his lifetime and was a scholar of the scriptures. He was an excellent teacher both at church and in the school classroom.

Sterling re-entered college where he met his wife to be, Maxine Child. They attended a year of college together and then were married August 29, 1957 in the Salt Lake Temple. Sterling obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Utah. He taught school for thirty years in Napa, California before retiring in Utah.

Sterling and Maxine enjoyed serving a church mission in Greece. He also served at the Mount Timpanogos Temple for over ten years as a dedicated ordinance worker.

Sterling was a quiet man, but with a dry sense of humor and usually a joke to tell. “Quiet men, you hardly notice them until they are gone and then they leave a great emptiness behind them. You miss the quietness and steadiness and the ultimate strength, which quiet men possess.”

Sterling is survived by three of his children, Kristine Hart, Nanette (Gary) Moser, Leslie Ann (Steve) Chapman, 18 beloved grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and his sister Karen Bateman. He is preceded in death by his wife Maxine and three of his children, Jill, Scott Sterling and baby Michelle Maxine.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue, Provo. There will be a viewing from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
