Obituary for Jessie Bell Dodd (Solomon)

Jessie Bell Dodd, 77, of Mattapan, Massachusetts, entered eternal life on Wednesday February 7, 2018 in Brighton, Ma at 2:11 pm.

Born March 10, 1940 in Sanderville, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Solomon and the late Lurie Neal Solomon.

Jessie grew up in Georgia and came to Boston when she was 15 years old. She attended Boston Public Schools and later met and married Niles Dodd.

Jessie was a diligent committed hard worker who barely used sick time at her jobs. She worked for many years at the Townsend Nursing Facility and later retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 2009 after 20 years of service.

Jessie was a mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was admired by many people. There was never a dull moment with her presence, she loved to talk and tell jokes. She treasured the company of her love ones and close friends. She loved music, dancing and entertaining. Most of all, she cherished her family and doted over her grandchildren and their accomplishments.

At the Foley Residences where Jessie resided, she participated in arts and crafts, bingo and socializing with other residents. She attended The Margaret Shea RN Adult Day Health Program daily until she was diagnosed with Leukemia in September 2017.

Throughout her illness, Jessie never complained. Even during the progression of her illness, she still smiled and inquired about the wellness of others. With every reason to cry, be mad and fall into depression after her diagnosis, she instead loved and lived every moment given. Neither hard times nor Leukemia would rob her of who she was. She was strong, selfless, and graceful all the way until she took her last breath surrounded by her children.

She is survived by a son Mikael Dodd of Mattapan, Ma; two daughters, Tiesa Clark and husband Lorenzo Clark of Dorchester, Ma and Lydia Dodd of Peabody, Ma; two sisters, Betty Paige of Roslindale, Ma, Deloris Jackson and husband Authur Jackson of Los Angeles, Ca.; eight grandchildren, Javon, Unique, Shaelah, Leon, Aleah, Layla, Nyah and Mekhi, three great-grandchildren, Yari, Madison and Tori. Jessie is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Special acknowledgements to all those who visited and called to express their love and support. The Dodd, Clark and Paige families want to thank everyone involved in Jessie’s care.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Jubilee Christian Church, 1500 Blue Hill Avenue, Mattapan, MA 02126.

Interment: Oak Lawn Cemetery, Roslindale, MA
