Obituary for Joyce Hoy Stein

Joyce Hoy  Stein
Joyce Hoy Stein, 68, of York went to PLAY WITH THE ANGELS on February 10, 2018 at York Hospital. She was the wife of Dr. Charlie Stein.

Born March 10, 1949 in McKeesport (Pittsburgh), PA, she is the daughter of Loy Chun Hoy and the late David Hoy.

Joyce was a volunteer coordinator at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for 14 years. She also worked at Kaufmann Department Store for 14 years in Pittsburgh.

She graduated from Brownsville Area High School, Brownsville, Pa. Joyce was on the reunion committee for her high school where she designing the name tags that included each person’s pictures. She received her bachelor of science in biology from Waynesburg University. She enjoyed cross stitching and needle point and traveling with Charlie to England, Scotland, Hawaii, and Cancun. Her favorite place to vacation was at Disney World. She was a fan of all sports in Pittsburgh, especially the Steelers. They have maintained a condo in Pittsburgh so they can get their Burgh fix frequently.

Joyce attended Living Word Community Church with Charlie.

In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by 2 sisters, Lily Yee Hoy and Millie Mills both of Pittsburgh; 3 brothers, Edwin Hoy of New York, Edmund Hoy of Pittsburgh, and Edward Hoy of West Virginia; and a step son, Matt Stein of York.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Word Community Church, 2530 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion with Pastor Brian Rice officiating. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. The dress is casual—Jeans for Joyce. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 924-N Colonial Avenue, York, PA 17403.

The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who were involved in Joyce’s care for the past 2 ½ years and for listening to Charlie’s unsolicited advice from his medical input down to changing the toilet paper roll to the “right” way—over the top.
