Ernest (Ernie) Joseph Gilchrist, 86, of Nashua NH, passed away on February 18, 2018 at The Elms Center in Milford, NH. He was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on January 11, 1932, the son of the late Ruth McHard and David Green. Ernest spent some of his childhood in California, but eventually moved to the Nashua area. He later would enjoy travelling to Florida and Georgia.
Mr. Gilchrist was enlisted in the Armed Services. Among the different jobs he held, he was best known for being a Taxi Driver. Ernie was also known for his great sense of humor. He never missed an opening for a good joke. As comical as he was, he also had a serious side. He was very opinionated about a lot of things and had written to the Editor of the local newspaper on more than a few occasions.
Ernest loved music and watching old movies. In his younger days, he could often be found in the backyard tinkering on his automobile, which was usually an old van. He would not think twice about helping anyone. Even at the age of 84, he was more than willing to help his fellow neighbors clean off their vehicles during a snowstorm, or to give someone a ride to the grocery store.
Ernest is survived by his brother Frank McHard Sr. and his wife, Sandra; his sister Ann Morrill; his ex-wife, Vina (Wilmot) Roy; four children; one son, Fred Blake and his wife Fatima; three daughters, Rita Wilde, Judith Kostyk and her husband Gary, and Dora Poliquin. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Jason Cooley, Lee-Ann Place, Fiona Blake, Fernando Blake, Laila Blake, Lynn Geddes, James Geddes, Jave Geddes, Tabitha Belanger-Cora, and Talia Belanger; 12 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Ernest also leaves behind his good friend Gail Wilson and his best friend since childhood, Wayne Broad.
There will be no services, but there will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, between 3-5 pm at the Lafayette Club, located at 34 High St. Nashua NH.
