Obituary for Robert Clarke

Robert  Clarke
Mr. Robert Clarke, 84, of South Burlington, Vermont passed away surrounded by his children on February 21st, 2018 at The McClure-Miller VNA Vermont Respite House.

He was born in Montpelier, Vermont at the Heaton Hospital on May 24th 1933, son of the late Gerald and Agnes (McCarty) Clarke.

Robert completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at St. Michael's College and pursued a Master of Science at the University of Vermont by 1966. He continued his career as a nutritional biochemist for over 25 years at the University of Vermont in the Department of Agriculture and Animal Sciences. He published books and papers that were read around the World. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and canning, especially pickles, which he made sure that everyone got as a gift at Chirstmas.

Robert is survived by his two sons and their spouses; Robert II and Jodie Clarke and Ronald and Tamara Clarke, one daughter and her spouse; Marianne (Clarke) and Doug Cauchon. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; Tracie Clarke; Jamie Clarke, Michael Clarke, Elizabeth Clarke, Tamara Clarke, Tricia DeWald, Kristopher Cauchon, and Kelsey Cauchon, and sisters-in-law Lillian Smith, Claire Crossman and Diane Benoit. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Madelaine (Benoit) Clarke; parents Gerald and Agnes (McCarty) Clarke; one brother, Edwin Clarke; two sister-in-laws- Theresa Lepine and Marguerite Goodine and three brother-in-laws Homer, Germaine, and Richard Benoit.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday February 26, 2018 at 10:00 o'clock at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in South Burlington, VT. Intermittent will follow at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington, VT. Visiting hours will be at the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service Sunday February 25 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
