Life Story for Sarah Catherine "Sally" Ricketts (Pflum)

Sarah Catherine "Sally"  Ricketts (Pflum)
Sarah (Sally) Ricketts, 80, of Madison, Indiana, formerly of Richmond, Indiana, passed away surrounded by her loving family on April 13, 2018 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.

Sally was born in Fayette County, Indiana April 11, 1938 to Edwin and Margaret (Henry) Pflum. She married J. Gordon Ricketts on June 29, 1961 on Catalina Island. She will be sadly missed by her husband of 57 years, John Gordon Ricketts; daughter Kelly Brooks and son-in-law Patric Brooks, granddaughters Ashley Ricketts and Caitlyn Brooks, great grandchildren John Brayden Ricketts-Boldery and Sarah Ricketts, and brothers Henry Pflum and Ted Pflum. Preceding her in death were Edwin Pflum (Father), Margaret Pflum (Mother) and Helen Pflum (Sister).

Sally graduated from Connersville High School then went on to graduate from Indiana University with a B. S. in Physical Education. She continued her education at Los Angeles State College then transferring to Ball State University earning her Master's Degree in Physical Education in 1965.

Early in Sally's career she worked as a camp counselor, Parks Director and a Flag Corp Sponsor. She began her teaching career in Duarte, California, then Milroy, Cambridge City and Alquina before settling at Northeastern High School in 1967. She continued her teaching career with Northeastern Elementary eventually retiring after 26 years with them in 1993. She worked at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for many years in the gift shop, museum and warehouse.

Sally was very active volunteering in her communities. Sally loved teaching and helping kids do their best in all areas of life. She loved coaching competitive sports and was an avid IU fan. She refereed volleyball and judged gymnastics. She played recreational volleyball for many years. She was a member fo the Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary #1969, the Women of the Moose, Elks, American Heart Association and a Bingo volunteer for the K of C. She was a member of many professional organizations include AAHPERD, IAHPERD, IHSAA advisory board, IU-HPERD and so many more. Sally also received notable awards for Indiana Elementary Educator of the Year, IHSAA Advisory Committee for Girls Athletics and Northeastern Wayne Schools Letter of Appreciation for 26 years of service.

Sally chose to will her body to the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Anatomy. There will be a celebration of life at a later time.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Funeral homes & Cremation Service locations or at lytlefuneralhomes.com.
