CUSTER — Joseph W. Coughlin (MHP-234, Ret.), 66, lost his hard-fought battle to cancer at his home in Custer. He was born on Dec. 24, 1951, in Deer Lodge, to James W. and Adele (Cotter) Coughlin. On May 11, 1974, he married Kelle Coughlin. Joe worked his dream job at the Montana Highway Patrol for 32 years before retiring in 2017. Joe is survived by his wife Kelle, daughters Brandy Doner and family, Brooke Strawderman and family, and mother Adele Coughlin. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 12, at 1 p.m., at the Custer School Gymnasium. Memorial donations may be made to The Hope Project or Custer Congregational Church (ramp project).
