Mr. Jasper Sidney Sweeney Jr., "a gentle soul", was born August 10, 1948. He was the eldest of nine children born to the late Mr. Jasper Sr., and Rosie Lee D. Sweeney. He departed this life on Friday, May 4, 2018, at Greenville Health System.

As a child, he attended Rocky Creek Baptist Church where his great-grandfather, the late Adolphus Sweeney, was the founder of the church; as an adult, after he gave his life to Christ, he joined Enoree Baptist Church, where he loved singing in the male chorus and often had bragging rights about his singing! He was a faithful member until his health declined.

“Jap” as so many called him, was a kind-hearted and loving person; always the peacemaker; he would do anything for you if he could; every time you saw him, he would have a smile on his face; no matter what the problem was, he would say, "It's gonna be alright, baby girl." He cherished his family, but the one thing he loved and cherished most was his children … ALL OF THEM!

Jap's favorite pasttime was baseball. Growing up he was an avid player of baseball. He could pitch a hard ball faster than a speeding bullet - a regular Satchel Paige; his favorite team was The New York Yankees. You would often see him sporting around in his New York Yankee's cap and shirt … once again his bragging rights!

He was educated in Greenville County where he attended Nicholtown Elementary and Sterling High School.

He retired from Kloeckner Metals, formerly Edgecomb Steel of Greenville, SC, and after retiring he continued working with Sweeney’s Landscaping Services until his health declined.

Preceding him in death: one granddaughter, Trinity Anita Thomason; a brother, Lawrence J. "Hound" Sweeney; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

He leaves to cherish many fond and loving memories, three daughters, Rosa LeAnna “San” Sweeney of Simpsonville, SC,

Cheryl S. (Taurus A.) Thomason of Greenville, SC, and Atavia Ware of Piedmont, SC; one son, Jasper S. Sweeney, III of Greenville, SC; one stepson, Marvin Ladson of Simpsonville, SC; five sisters, Geneva E. (Curtis) Thomas of Hodges, SC, Christine Sweeney (Dennis) Rose and Princess A. Sweeney, both of Taylors, SC, Karen A. Clement and Jacqueline R. Blanding, both of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Lavanda C. Sweeney of Greenville and Donnie M. Sweeney of Taylors; six grandchildren, Trayvius Sweeney, Taurie Thomason, Truth Thomason, Taurus Thomason, Jr., Sidney Sweeney and Arianna Sweeney; two great-grandchildren, Montrell Sweeney and Trinity Sweeney; two maternal uncles, Albert (Marcella) Dogan and Alvin (Lorine) Dogan, of Greenville, SC; three maternal aunts, Nancy D. Munford of Cleveland, OH, Mary D. Jenkins of Greenville, SC and Clara D. (Fred) Henderson of Mauldin, SC; additional aunts, Georgia M. Dogan and Lula J. Dogan, both of Greenville; and a host of other relatives and friends.
