Obituary for Vernarda Cortez Smith

Vernarda Cortez Smith was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 25, 1960 to the parents of Robert L. Smith and the late Rosemary Smith. He was the fifth child of seven.

Vernarda received his education in the Boston Public Schools and later received a GED. From an early age he was an extremely gifted musician and played several instruments and wrote music with little to no training.

Vernarda held several jobs in the construction field, one of which was a machinist on the “Big Dig”. Father to four children, daughter, Renarda Shavon Smith-Huggins, Sons, Drew Everett, Vernarda Cory Smith and James “Nicky” Smith.

Vernarda was an extremely generous person and had a heart to help those in need. He very rarely became angry with others and was never one to complain.

Preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary Smith, brother Baron Smith (Scoey) and sister, Vonetta Smith.

He leaves to cherish his memory his father Robert Lee Smith; a long time partner Athena Tasiopoulos; six sisters, Laverne Johnson (Earl) ; Veneice Smith-McCain (Nelson); Robin Smith-McGregor (Clarence); Rosemary Smith, Shirelle Gomes, Tiarra Smith (California), three grandchildren, Keyshawn, Deontae and Aria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and friends.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00am followed by Funeral service at 11:00 O’clock at Riley-Antoine Funeral Home 171 Humboldt Avenue, Dorchester, MA 02121.
