Obituary for Minnie Aleen Thorpe (Dunn)

Minnie Aleen (Dunn) Thorpe, 88 passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at home surrounded by Family and Loved Ones.

Minnie was born July 28, 1929 in Knightdale, Wake County, North Carolina to the late Johnny Dunn & Susie Haywood. She worked alongside her family growing tobacco and other crops. In her early 20’s she moved to Boston where she met her husband Sylvester Thorpe and they were married in the 1950’s. From the union of their marriage they had two children.

Minnie was a Faithfull Member of Peoples Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA where she sang in the choir and volunteered until taking ill.

Minnie was a homemaker before going to work as a house cleaner in the suburbs of Boston. Minnie loved to garden; she definitely had a green thumb. She took pride in her yard. The bushes, flowers and grass always looked so beautiful.

Love continuously outpoured from Minnie’s heart. She had a vibrant personality and was sure to extend a loving gesture or warm smile to anyone she encountered. She was very nurturing to all. Minnie was an inspiration, she helped raise generations aiding her Niece Linda Galvez and Great Niece Cynthia Dixon Patterson in raising their multitude of children.

She would hold on to those fleeting moments that mattered most. An important event in the lives of her children: a wedding, a proud accomplishment and any new arrivals. She was indeed a woman with many gifts and social grace. Minnie home was always open to those in need welcoming everyone to eat, sleep, and rest.

Minnie is preceded in death by her husband Sylvester Thorpe; brothers, Alton, William Edward, Eugene and sisters Lucille, Ula Mae, Pauline and Mildred. Minnie is survived by one brother James Louis Dunn (Joyce) of Raleigh, N.C., two sons Gene Earl (Vallerie) & Carl Stevie Thorpe both of Boston, MA, 6 grandchildren: Felicia, Carl Jr., Rina, Teria, Christopher, Lauren & Niya & 9 great grandchildren: PSalmari, Kira, Zhaneiya, Jazmariah, Jeveaha, Makai, Joie-Marie, Zadia, Louis & C.J. and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends she loved.

There will be a Viewing on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 12:00 to 1:00pm followed by Funeral Service at 1:00 O'clock at Riley-Antoine Funeral Home, 171 Humboldt Ave., Dorchester, MA 02121.
